Bedtime prayers

You know at my house it is our evening routine to brush our teeth , comb our hair, and read a story or two and then be tucked in with the most important thing being a hug or two and some kisses and of course, the bedtime prayer. Tonight, Halle and I were having some "girl time" because Daddy put Caleb to bed so we often tell stories, giggle and just talk about things. I love this part of my job as mother, being able to sit and soak in all of the things that go in and out of that little head of hers. First, tonight she wanted to hear a story or two not from her books but the ones I make up. Next, she started asking about some different people and then she asked when MaryAnn would be coming back from her visit to heaven to see Jesus. (MaryAnn just passed away in April of this year) I went on to tell her that she would be with Jesus forever and she then replied "Oh No, I wanted to see her!" She also continued with "Will we have to go to heaven to visit her and Jesus?" I said yes, and then she thought some more and wondered if she could write Jesus a letter and how could it get all the way to heaven. I asked her what her letter to Jesus would say and this was the response:

Dear Jesus,

I love you and I just wanted to thank you for all the gifts you gave us the day you were born in Bethlehem with all of that hay "stuff" and that sort of crib thing or whatever. Mommy and I want to thank you because you really are a pro!

Love, Halle

I came right down the hall to my office to put it down on paper because I didn't want to forget or lose track of her words and the sincere little heart that had spoken them. She really does have the softest heart for spiritual things and I love that. I know I have said this before but we all need to have that same childlike faith that we see in our children and those around us. I know that I am amazed by it everyday. Good night, and don't forget to say your bedtime prayers and maybe write Jesus a letter this week thanking Him for all of his gifts to us. I plan to.

holly,
thank you, thank you for writing
that down. very precious. those are
the words that get lost somewhere if
you don't get them journaled. halle
has such a cute way of putting things. it's priceless to know her
thoughts about the Lord and heaven.
you did a good job explaining...

love you,

I laughed out loud about the "hay stuff!" Halle is a very serious little girl, but with such a good sense of humor! And wisdom beyond her years. I love her so much! You better give that girl a hug from her Auntie Heidi, man I miss her. Aren't you glad you started boogging Holl? Now you'll have those sweet words forever on paper (well I guess in cyberspace) but they are recorded, and that is what matters! I love you so much,
Heidi
